I don't know much about tuning an MG, however, I can suggest a solution if you don't mind ditching your distributor. Install a crank fired ignition system. 1000's have done it with great success. I suggest the MegaJolt by Autosport Labs. Yep, you guessed it, I work for Autosport Labs.

Did you check and see if you have any vacuum leaks? High idle is sometimes caused by a vacuum leak and if Dist was moved perhaps vacuum line is dis-connect, broken or other....

Check your spark plug wires. If you are using the 4 o'clock rotor position for #1, make sure number 1 cylinder is at top dead center (TDC) when the rotor is pointing to 4 o'clock. Then from there, correct your wires to 1-3-4-2....you might be set at 1-2-4-3.
